System = 0

System prompt. Resets the history and replaces any earlier system prompt.

User = 1

A message from the user.

Remarks

The numeric values are part of the native ABI and must not be reordered. Deliberately not named ChatRole: consumers of this library routinely have using Microsoft.Extensions.AI; in scope, which defines its own ChatRole, and an ambiguous reference there would be a compile error in exactly the integration this type exists to support.
